Many may have already have heard about the closure of the Bicycle Academy in Frome, which came as an “Understandable Shock” to me.
Having, like hundreds of others, benefited from teaching courses there It is difficult to see how the custom building scene will be quite the same again.
Additionally there is the loss of the tool making arm which, to my mind, revolutionised the provision of quality framebuilding tools to the UK market. I had it in mind to by their disc brake fixture for my next disc build and now wish I had not put it off.
There is still some hope in as much as Andrew Denham, the founder, intends to continue teaching on a smaller scale with his new venture “ONE TUBE AT A TIME”, for which we wish him well. Hopefully too he will be restarting some of the tooling business.
